The problem is that its an exploit in the use of ActiveX controls which is pretty central to the way that IE works - disable ActiveX sorts the issue, but turns IE into even more of a basket case.

I lashed out and bought CCleaner Pro - it has the extra features of cleaning the cr*p for ALL users of the machine (no point if there's only you) and doing stuff on a schedule.
