Re: Zero emission road vehicles.

I think that there are a lot of wrong assumptions here. Electricity is not evil at the car level. The production of electricity as well as the transport to wherever will be able to charge can be evil. Internal combustion engines were never good for the environment but they did allow the middle class...

What happened to Alex Kitic? I recall Paul sending him stuff as a collaboration but don't remember anything after.
Alex got a job in a different industry and is very busy. I chatted with him online not too long ago. His last amp was a RH6080 headphone amp in 2018.

Re: Zero emission road vehicles.

Hydrogen Hoax would be a good title for this. Another spot on video from Physicists Sabine… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zklo4Z1SqkE Far from being a hoax, the video gives information (probably accurate) about problems that have to be overcome. I still think Hydrogen will have a part to play in ...

Re: On the subject of HiFi

Being an orchestral musician, my opinion is perhaps different - but not necessarily more valid. I personally believe that the goal of hifi is NOT accuracy, rather to create a "plausible" image of the event recorded. Plausible in the case of a large orchestra is wide and deep with little or...

Here is his own website:

There is probably no better source than this.

RIP!

Re: Elektor Fortissimo-100 amplifier...

Everything that I have ever built from Elektor has worked well for a short time, then failed. Amplifiers, preamplifiers, NiCad battery chargers and the like. Maybe it is me but I doubt it.

Re: another swansong

My experience of using thin kerfed MDF in more than one layer was very bad ( on an iteration of the mid/bass horn ) . I guess if you can manage to make sure all the voids are filled and it's tightly bonded from layer to layer it might sound a fair bit better ( if Rowuk has managed that ) . However ...

The inner curve was screwed to the top/bottom from the outside, then the outer shell was screwed to the inner from the inside. Between the two shells there is a layer of glue and sand.
The slits in the inner and outer shell leave 5 mm unslitted so that the inner/outer surface is airtight.

Re: Purifi-based monitor - options

Maybe I am missing something, but my understanding of speaker harmonic distortion is that we only need to excite the fundamental. Then, just like with a musical instrument (or in this case a bell), all the harmonics are automatically excited. No crossover can change the behavior of the bell - only a...

Re: Actress and singer Olivia Newton-John dies aged 73

Cause of death is undisclosed, but she had repeated bouts with breast cancer.

Those so inclined can support her Cancer institute:

That could help slow down some of the deaths.

I have never been mellow.

Re: Power supply issue

With the rectifiers disconnected, what AC voltages are at the transformer? I had a similar issue many years ago with an incorrectly labelled transformer. There was 0, 9 and 14 volts measured, the label said 15, 0, 0,15. With 9VAC going to the one side and 14VAC going to the other side of the rectifi...
