Yes, but the whole point of the exercise is that you don't have a dedicated phase splitter valve.

When I started my first job in Wanstall's wonderful hifi emporium in 1972 I was on £12 per week. By the time it went spectacularly bankrupt in 1977, that had risen to £36 per week, which bought about the same as £12 five years earlier!

Was that configured with one 832 grid grounded and no phase splitter, or back with the original circuit? Nick did comment that it was a sort of semi-single-ended concept.

I would guess a black can radiates heat better than a bare metal one, but having no can would be better still from that point of view?
