Re: SLOB project
First though I need to determine the target configuration and I think getting hold of a DSP unit is the way to do that. If possible I want to run the full range unit 'sans crossover' by bandwidth limiting the MoFo amp I'm planning to use with it so the next step is to build a suitably configured Mo...

I didn't use damping sheets but some people think they are necessary.

Re: What would you do with these drivers?
I am not convinced that a subwoofer with feedback has better „quality“ because of the servo. Perhaps more extension - but that also only within mechanical limits. With the room at +- 20dB for the lowest couple of octaves, maybe it is all a moot point? I used an 18" cone Velodyne servo controll...

Re: What would you do with these drivers?
This is how it works. "Direct servo can be thought of as an adaptive equalization system. To be more specific, it performs a transformation on the physical T/S parameters into a set of virtual T/S parameters. By doing so, the amplifier adjusts its output so that the frequency response behaves a...

Re: Soekris DAC Build
Thomas, I am using the dam 1021 (raw output) with a 300B buffer with gain (10dB/Zout about 800R). This puts the volume control of the HQ player between -30dB and -10dB for absolutely satisfying dynamics and loudness in a really big room (listening distance about 9 feet). If I use the raw output with...

Re: Soekris R2R DAC
I got my board today and checked it with the uManager . It has Rev 1.06 and FPGA Rev 1.05 installed. Good to know in case somebody on this forum wants to buy it because this means that this board doesn't have the initial problems of Rev.090/099 and has preinstalled improved filters.Unfortunately the...

Re: A Valve Preamp with Phono Stage and Tone Controls.
I don’t think simple tone controls are ideal as increasing the bass would also increase subsonic frequencies dramatically, stressing driver and amp unnecessarily. On the other hand after experimenting for a while with different EQs and comparing the results to using no EQ I think the phono section n...

Re: PCM to DSD conversion
This article gives a nice overview without being too complicated. https://headfonics.com/dsd-vs-pcm-real-competitors/ Here are some results from this article that make most sense IMO: If reconsider some of the common myths or opinions of DSD and PCM we have 3 we would like to focus on: 1. DSD can be...

Re: PCM to DSD conversion
You can’t mix or master in DSD it has to be converted to PCM which sort of defeats the point. According to this SOS article you can. https://www.soundonsound.com/sound-advice/q-can-i-record-mix-and-master-dsd "Processing native DSD streams in a DAW environment is possible in a fashion, but isn...

Re: PCM to DSD conversion
Me neither if I think about it. It's indeed not based on solid ground.I don't understand why you think that?
It's more based on a feeling that DSD should/could theoretically be less prone to “errors” because of the simpler filtering and maybe less filtering artifacts in the audible range.

Re: PCM to DSD conversion
Maybe my understanding about the ideal of ADC-DAC is no longer correct then (or never was?). I thought the idea was to get as close as possible to the original analog curve and upsampling would be one possible way to achieve this. From that understanding the DSD format should be theoretically even b...

PCM to DSD conversion
I am still considering PCM to DSD conversion at some point. With HQ player there are many options/filters etc and I tried to get a little bit more information about everything. So I ended up reading this article: http://archimago.blogspot.com/2019/02/measurements-look-at-hqplayer-325.html. I was a b...

Re: Valve DAC
The more I dive into the HQ -Player and its possibilities and DSD the more I like it.Could solve the DSP problem. That opens of course a whole set of new options . I really like the desktop-client option on one PC. I hope I can get the valve-DAC to work following Ray's build. Some things are still n...

Re: Valve DAC
IMO this DAC deserves to be built by more people and it will be good, in due course, to expose some of you guys t Great success, Ray. I had a feeling when I first read the article in audio x-press that it could be soemthing special.I would start this project if the parts could be ordered easily. Co...

Re: New SE With Triode Mode KT120/150
Nick measured it at 600mW into an 8 Ohm load before the distortion shot up Did you try to reduce the NFB? There is a sweet spot with max. power and ideal NFB with these OTLs. You don't need to adjust for lowest DF but for ideal DF that works best with your speaker /amp combo. Sounds also so much be...
