Maybe the idea was finding something ludicrously cheap and selling it for an astronomical price, hence being able to retire quietly - an attractive proposition to many. Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuttt at present we only have Richard's word for it and although he's a nice, serious minded and sens...

To your first paragraph I can only agree up to a point because it isn't necessary, only possible, that they say those things. Also, they may say things they do not mean not by being deliberately disingenuous but just by expressing themselves badly. To your second paragraph, having read what I wrote,...

Dam'right! I'm good at that. But lookeehere, some have said that your heaters need their own little power supplies that go along unchanging as the music progresses. Keeping HT and heaters as far apart as posible is teh best thing. But if the heaters are driven off the same mains transformer as the H...

Yep David is right - they are there. Now some might argue that independent heater sources are an improvement from ones all on the main transformer but some would, wouldn't they! N.B. Anthony - when you connect up the heater wires, pin1 must be joined to the other pin1 and pin4 must be joined to the ...

No, I'm not changing my mind Colin, just wondered that the differences there would be would come down to personal taste perhaps and KTs might be better - I haven't done a KT amp so can't comment. I like 807s because they are seriously cheap (but aren't all russian ones!) and I suspect Russian valves...

Can't say fairer (cheaper) than that! I've bought a few things from this eBayer - reliable and efficient.

I wonder though, apart from giving them away, would they really be better than el34, 6L6, KTetc ?

I 'spose I could look up my notes but I used something like an ecc81 to drive (and that was a bit arbitrary) and a 5k output transformer, 400volts. There's a pic. in the gallery in that other place. I like the look of 807s with their jazzy hats and I know I didn't get anywhere near the best and Trio...

of course, and it hardly needs saying but ...and I know you'll all snigger ... I was tidying up the front room and made the interesting cardinal sin of plonking the deck in front of a loudspeaker, oh all right, ... to the side of the speaker and when I turned up the volume the effect on the sound, t...

Well I'd sharpened up the old and trusty cut throat, written a note to the nearest and dearest and was just about to cut for the second time (and if any of you have even been there you'll know what I mean) when through comes Philip's apology. So, unburdened and cheerful I set out on the day's busine...
