Eleanor McEvoy

Hello Sam, if you like Karine Polwart there's a reasonable chance you'll like Eleanor McEvoy. You can sample some tracks here: http://www.eleanormcevoy.com/sounds/index.html She cares about recording quality too. I have several of her albums on SACD but I believe they're available on vinyl too. Ray

Electronluv

BTW, I remember the sound in the Electronluv room was pretty good; they also had some pretty amazing horn speakers.

That said, it didn't match Bruce Edgar's titans powered by a pretty everyday push-pull valve amp which was best of show for me (and, I think, Mr Barker).

Electronluvs

Yes, they're GM100s, running HT at 1900V, hence the smell of ozone in the room. Josh operated the on/off switch with a long wooden pole. They gave out so much white light that you could have read a book by them alone (I think it was about equivalent to a 200watt bulb if I remember correctly). Ed, th...

The True Path

Andrew, go and run a cold bath and throw in all the ice you can get out of your freezer - you'll feel better afterwards.

Just to remind you of the true path! (Its the electronluv room at VSAC 2003 - the smell of ozone hit you when you walked through the door!)

Karine Polwart

Samantha, as mentioned, got to see karine Polwart last evening and she was excellent. In a similar mould, have you tried any of Eleanor McEvoy's music?

SR5D

Paul Hynes modules cost in the region of £110 each.

They still waste a lot of energy as heat though, you need to mount the module on a heatsink of something like 0.6deg C/W. You dissipate something like 60-70W to get 2.4W to the speakers.

What sort of music

Samantha, you asked what sort of music this is; its not that simple but imagine (sort of) elements of Clannad, the Medieval Beabes, and add some traditional european and middle-eastern type influences and you might get some basic idea. She has a wonderful voice. Her website is below and you can buy ...

Alternative Cabinet Materials

Any thoughts on alternative cabinet materials (i.e. not ply or MDF). I use lowther horns with the All Fun cabinet design. Clearly to fold a horn into a box results in a compromise and ideally a horn should be a smooth curve and a round cross-section. I've been toying with the idea of making a patter...

Silicon Devices

Andrew (I) , cheating! - I'm not proud and I don't think silicon injections are banned by the world anti-doping organisation.

Anyway, isn't glass made from silicon.
