'Ultra Black' stays in the system ( was on loan ) .
There really is no way around it, for me.
Can't believe I forked out so much money for some cables, but I have no idea how to DIY something this good . Anything else I could DIY something world-class, but not here .

I've yet to find a true engineer who is only concerned about function and not about form. Engineering, in its truest form, is a hybrid of science and art - look at the design of the Victorian polymaths e.g. Brunel - even today, they are exquisite and pleasing to the eye... The subtlety is in what c...

I'm just listening to Time Out as expected . I always thought it was well recorded, but listening to it now with some recent tweaks ( Bud's transformers, the fancy TQ wires ) I'm struck even more by how fabulous this recording is, and particularly how great Joe Morello's precussion sounds. There's s...

Oh that's a shame .
What a great musician and a really decent bloke as well.
I did enjoy seeing the documentary about him on BBC4 a while back, I have that one saved in the 'archive' .

I shall have to bring out one or other of his albums later this evening .

Maybe you get used to the new sound, but I hear the tonal colour increasing , the soundstage depth increasing, and the dynamics improving. I don't have to sit in front of the system imagining it's happening, either - it comes to me as a surprise, playing music while I'm doing other things in the hou...

Ok, I'll be more direct - I do believe that transformers run-in, so do capacitors and so do wires. There are a number of common issues in all three that could be the cause. Last time I ran in a pair of transformers it was obvious there were improvements happening for about 20 hours, then it leveled-...

So if transformers run-in, then it's just the core material being exercised, nothing else ?

Have you ever heard the way a set of output transformers run-in, Scott ?

Yes - OK, but did it sound bright because of the silver-coated multi-stranded in white teflon which was recommended for the treble ? I'm trying to understand what merit there might be in the coax for bass or low bass. It's true that this cable could have also contributed to poor mids or upper mids t...

....... with the crumpet who liked getting her hands dirty ? I could do with one of those to help around here. My intention is to stick with the Bruce Edgar method ( as used on horn #2 ) with the solid wood batens ( batons ? ) build up around the curve, it seemed less prone to failure to me t...

Minor progress

Just spent part of this afternoon bashing my horn ... :!: This is the first bass/mid horn I did, with the bendy-mdf ( & filler paste ) sides . It wasn't very good - had poor tone & needs rebuilding like the second one really . I took a big mallet to the mdf sides and the speaker flange and m...

Re: Various ramblings

Yes, i once built a fancy coax cable from a recipe on TNTaudio i think. That was crap as well. Or at the very least it didn't suit the rest of the system. I think it was probably crap. Al, if you're there , Can you remember anything about the frequency band you used it over? My buddy Len is thinkin...
