#1 Vortexbox replacement...

Post by jack »

Hello peeps.

As I'm doing a bunch with more up-to-date Raspberry Pi stuff, I was wondering what the alternatives to Max2Play clients and a Vortexbox server - OrangeSqueeze is the controlling ap..

I use the Spotify & Youtube plugins and have a decent library of maybe 1,000 CDs on the server.

Client h/w is all Raspberry Pis running Max2Play with IQaudIO hats - either just a Pi-DAC+ (if going into an amp or pantry transmitter), or Pi-DigiAMP+ (if going straight to speakers). Currently there are 5 players and 1 server.

Is there something better than this setup with the same or better functionality?

Piecoreplayer and LMS without a doubt Nick. I was a long term max2play user but went back to LMS. Loads of plugins for LMS like Material to give it a fresh modern look and all supported by a great community. When I get around to installing docker on my pihole RPi I’ll migrate LMS over to it as well.

OK, so you run pCP on the clients and LMS in a container on the server with your files on a SAN or an SSD (or somewhere).

LMS can connect with Spotify & Youtube via plugins, and does internet radio anyway?

Couldn't find a list of those DACs etc. that pCP supports...

Also, what mobile control app do you recommend?
