Absolutely right! Need the bifocals, the "general purpose" and the "closer up general purpose" (for things < 3 feet away)
Earlier was playing with Google maps route finder, never used it before, really very good.

Hmmmm....
I got mains across my right index finger once. I had the top off an amp, and went to plug in the mains (3 pin plug, live). So, holding on to the conductors inside the amp, I proceeded to plug in this wire, and my finger happened to be across live and neutral (no fuses blowing here....). 50Hz @230V feels weird - it went all vibratey, then numb, then quite painful. The scars have faded since.

Ouch! they 'tingle' don't they.
What you've described is one of the 'safer' (!?) ways of taking a shock, across your finger.
You probably know this already buuuuuuuuuttttttttt... A conductive path that crosses your heart is what need to avoid at ALL cost's. So, if you're poking about inside an amp don't do it with both hands, if you need to check voltages you can make things safer by croc-clipping one side of the meter to the 0V rail and then you only need to watch what you're doing with one hand/probe, not 2 at once. keep one hand out of the chassis, put it in yer pocket so you lessen the chances of a zap across the ol' ticker! (Plus also if you've got one hand in yer pocket you look
well-gangsta too and the electrons get scared and wont try it on
)
but even so... it can still get you across the heart travelling from say ... left hand to right foot though so be careful matey.
We want you building amps still when you're well into your 90's like Phil does
Its a great hobby but 'play safe'...

That's nuthin', many many years ago (when I had very much more ambitious plans for projects) I had to move my latest homebrew oscilloscope chassis for some reason, no proper cover made for it yet so all "nude" so to speak; best thing to do is pick up the back end by the mains transformer cos that's the heaviest bit right? It was powererd up by the way
Halfway through the manouvre, started getting current through the hand holding the mains TX.
Couldn't just drop it then and there could I? So had to carry it back to where I got it from and put it down before I could let go of it.
It's a true story folks

My wife decided to hoover the bathroom in bare feet. There was a bare wire on the cable which she just had to stand on.
She completed the circuit by holding onto the stainless steel towel radiator.
Apparently she made quite a lot of noise for a good few seconds before she realised what she'd done.
She shouted my daughter to pull the plug out.
My daughter weighed the situation up and said "i'm not touching that".
If you are wondering why she didn't just pick her foot up. It was because she's disabled and couldn't move fast enough.

on the 2 hands thing....
the worst shock I had was tweaking a guitar amp with guitar in hand.
my left hand was holding the neck ( read earthed....) and my right hand on the probe - slipped and went straight onto the EL34 power tube sockets.
I literally sprang across the room a few feet with the muscle reaction.
I ALWAYS keep one hand away now and cliplead the earth probe. and never test an amp live with a guitar around my neck !!!
Do not try this at home kids....especially with sharp scissors.

I regularly run with open scissors just to prove I'm still daft to my partner.
She reckons I don't need to prove it to her anymore.
She already 'knows'.
