The first of four stages in the Pyrenees today - who's got the legs? - will Pogacar crack?
Sorry, I couldn't resist!

No .... (!)
Interesting to see they interviewed Inigo san Millan a couple of days ago, talking about Pogacar's performances.
He was looking at the numbers for the Ventoux stage, and said that the opposition weren't that good, there had been stronger challengers in previous years.
Be interesting to see if Geraint Thomas starts to get some form again though.
I think the French guy Guillaume Martin will fall back today, after yesterday's efforts.

The interesting thing re Pogacar, is that he seems to go well in poor weather, whereas other's form can dip in the cold and rain. There is some doubt about how good he is when it's very hot and the road goes very high. Today is the day we will see the answers to those questions!

Ha ! Nothing can slow him down.
But Guillaume did fall back.
I-S-M said that Pogacar was the most trainable young rider he'd ever seen.

With the wet weather curtaling other activities I watched the last 70Km of the stage while pedalling away on Zwift in my garage.

None of Pogacar's rivals seem to be able to mount a sustained attack to put him under real pressure - I wonder how much is physical condition and how much is mental (demoralised).

It's a rest day today so I think I'll join them and just take an after work stroll today.

I think the crashes in the first week changed the GC situation completely.
Roglic would have been the main contender but he was battered by two crashes and gave up eventually.
Geraint Thomas may still be suffering , his sleeping must have been affected in the first few days. with the shoulder pain.
I'm not sure who from the rest of the list was actually a serious contender.
Ineos went to Carapaz, I can't remember of Richie Porte crashed too, but I think he might have been a better bet originally.
They could have had Bernal but he was chosen for the Giro, which is fair enough when Thomas needed a chance for the Tour again.

The weather has been fantastic over the last few days so I treated myself to a mini tour of Somerset this morning. Lots of fluids and a good covering of sun-block the order of the day.

So Cavendish ends Le Tour tied with Merkx on 34 stage wins - perhaps a good position as it would be a shame to eclipse Merckx's record, though his standing as probably the best rider ever isn't under threat IMO. I wonder if Cavendish will be back next year, it must be questionable if Sam Bennet, (their sprinter who's injury let him in), is fit.

Awesome performance from Pogacar but let's hope he has some more competition next year. Now, if he could get up to Merckx's record that would be something to talk about.

I'm sure Cavendish will be back next year if he's on anything like the same form.
I know that Merckx spoke to him a couple of days ago and told him he'd be happy to see Mark break his record.

Good effort on the ride, Ray. I did an hour today, but it was on the limit of heat for me these days, and I was licking my wounds ( not literally though ) from a punishing 6 hour+ walk in the Lake District on Wednesday that caught me out in a number of ways. It would be nice, once, just to do a longer walk that didn't turn into an epic.

Nice work team, we've all been at it, whahey!

Scobswell and me went out. I've got some more movement back in my neck and can just about see over my shoulders in the riding position so felt safe(ish) to go for a ride. The PMR is still causing problems and I've had some vision trouble too, meh, went for some help pronto, its getting sorted.

Anyway, furthest ride in over a year, up the Thames path to Thamesmead then back home via a different route. Photo op. across the river from the Barking Creek barrier.

Wonderful, great day. Puts that slack & gentle TdF into perspective. I went for a glorious 6mile walk with Neil the guitar. When we got back to his, he showed me that despite an acquisition of a Bear Guitars hand built jazzmeister, Neil has finally embraced four strings and although I could show him the rather fast Killing Floor bass line he's already gone funky on a crap yamaha something or other. Power to his elbow and to your spirit, says I .

Good or bad, DtB is an original! I think I know what 'ygmv' means but he does.

Your gooch may vary, I think.
