Cornwall let the UK down yesterday, in terms of weather, but looks like Devon is doing a better job. Looks hilly !

Just been swimming in the sea near Lydd... It was lovely, water about 15C, air about 22C. High tide this morning was at about 11:30, so not too much current/undertow.... Just a lovely swim with no annoying children around!

Fish & chips in Rye and on way home now...

Its 27C here at the moment.

Devon is very lumpy, no 'monstor' climbs but plenty of shorter steep slopes to drain your legs!

Is that why drop bars were invented?

A bit of a non-story given the evidently different relative efforts:

But it's good publicitiy for both him, the ToB and cycling in general.

London to Birmingham on a Friday sounds busy !
Is there an intricate route to help at the start and finish ?
Nice thing to achieve, that.

On the Dragon Devil ride ( 304km ) it says in red : "Please note this distance is cancelled for the delayed 2021 event due to lack of daylight hours on the new date. the Devil will be back in 2022" Maybe it's the Grand Fondo ( only 211km - piece of piss ! )
I'm pretty sure my friend Steve from work did that about 5 years ago. Shame he won't be doing anything like that again, he's had a couple of minor strokes.

Pre-op bloods and scans today. Op is on the 12th October. Madly, I have bloods at the hospital doing the op (TW Nuffield). Then have to go to Pembury Hospital about a mile away for another set of bloods and the scans...

In between I go through the TW industrial park, so am picking up a set of new boots for the Landie... thus will be much poorer by the end of the day...

I already have 5 nice "Wolf" rims, so once the beasts of tyres (BFG K02 A/T 235/85R16s) are on, everything below the waist on the car is done.

Good luck with all that.

I got enthusiastic today and took a more hilly route than normal. Gave all the gears a work-out, and my legs at times.
Conditions were about perfect, it's been lovely this week.
Did exactly an hour & a half. I think there's been a bit of crossover of fitness from my trip to the Lakes last week, I did a 5 hr walk up & down a hill in the Coniston group Wednesday, in the heat. I felt a bit fitter and more resilient today, than of late.

By the wonders of 'Paint' , follow the blue arrows :

Hope it worked out today and fingers-crossed for a good outcome on the 12th.

More fun this afternoon in the fine conditions. I felt OK after yesterday, so decided to push things a bit.
Set out steady, then did some hillclimbing. Did the 'shelf' loop on the hills SE of Ruthin. Pretty long climb out of Graigfechan, lots of use of the 30x24 and 30x27.

On the way back I could feel some slight bumping in a regular sort of rhythm. I felt the front tyre while riding and decided it seemed OK, and the pressure hadn't gone down. I did my usual 40+ mph descent from Llandyrnog , a couple of miles out from Denbigh.
Then I checked the tyres a bit more when I got back :

That would have hurt Mark - lucky escape!

I have to say find it really difficult to follow your routes on the OS maps, what with al the cartographic 'clutter' and 'unusual' place names.

Hmm.. but the cartographic 'clutter' is 'information' to me. Things like the contour lines to show the hills and how steep they are, plus woods, churches, the size of the roads etc etc. I look at the standard Google map, or the things that Strava produces, and it's just a meaningless smear of green around the route , to me, tells me nothing.
ps. i can't do anything about the place names !

I will try to improve my arrows, that I do in Paint.
