I've been watching some Youtube videos by this man, and here is his take on how much Vit D we actually need.

Makes you think.

Not saying the information is wrong but,,
Eric Berg, is NOT a Medical Doctor. He is a Chiropractor who has self educated without formalized Clinical Training!!! His understanding of Medical Physiology is frequently erroneous.

Thanks Nick, I made a wrong assumption on the Doctor matter.

Although my Osteopath seems very well versed in all matters pertaining to the human body and has both a medical and holistic approach to patients problems.

I don't know how much overlap there is between various branches of medicine whilst training ?

Chiropractors who train in the U.K. have to complete a four year university degree course and on qualification are entitled to use the title ‘Doctor’.

Not the entire story. They can use the term " Doctor of chiropractic", not "Doctor" on its own - the "of chiropractic" clarification must follow immediately.

Not sure it matters, I would look to science to provide these sorts of answers not medical practitioners.

I haven't watched those vids, but most of the information you could need about dosage was already collected by Vieth in 1999.
https://academic.oup.com/ajcn/article/69/5/842/4714819
If you look at Figure 1 and table 4, for instance.
You see that dosages around 400 to 1000iu are only going to get you into the lower reaches of the UK range ( from 50nmol/L ) , which is considered inadequate in a number of countries ( where they spec 75 or more ). At 10,000iu/day you will get up into the range that people who live or work outdoors in sunny countries achieve. So probably something around 2000 to 4000iu/day is enough.
I use a UV-B sunlamp once a week outside of the summer months, that should give me 25,000iu per week. I take about 10 cod liver oil capsules per week , each is 200iu. So overall that's about 3800iu per day, plus what I can get from food. With this I got a measured 25(OH)D of 115nmol/L .

I got another data point on this the other day.
My sister managed to get enough blood out of our mum to get her vitamin D tested ( it wasn't easy ) amongst other things.
She has exactly the same level as me - about 115 nmol/dL.
This is great, she's been taking 800iu or 1000iu once a day for about 3 or 4 years , for osteoporosis.
So that's better than I expected for that dose. I suppose she's a fair bit smaller than me though !

Mark i assume your mother taking the vitamin D on her doctors advice? As excessive vitamin D can cause hypercalcemia which can I turn cause Osteoporosis amongst other complications generally affecting your kidneys. Which can be compounded by a diet with a high calcium intake. ( Milk cheese etc) For my condition I have cut out almost all dairy products, the occasional ice cream for a treat, my regular blood tests monitor my levels. I am taking a single 12.5 ug Vitamin D tablet currently, hoping that I can run the gauntlet of Covid until the vaccine comes without causing longer lasting damage.
