#1 Boat Anchor

Post by Ali Tait »

Think this qualifies, about 40kg I think. Picked up yesterday a Krell KSA 100 MK 1. Looks to be all original and in very good nick, though I noticed someone had taken the speaker protection fuses out of circuit, so I've put them back in. Can only listen to it on my cans at the moment, but it's certainly the best I've heard them sound.

I suspect James can give you some advice about that one.

Thats a big lump ali, very
impressive
The tube manual is quite like a telephone book. The number of it perfect. It is useful to make it possible to speak with a girl. But we can't see her beautiful face from the telephone number

Nice find.
Similar in weight to some of my older-model PA amps. There's a reason I moved across to class D.

Part of me wonders if those old amps could be converted to class A. Big PSU, lots of heatsink...

I was planning on a good clean, changing some of the lytics, checking offset & bias but otherwise leaving it alone. Not sure what to do about the huge PS caps, new ones will not be cheap. A lot of what I read online says they most likely are fine. What does the panel think?

Leave well alone is my suggestion :-)

Replacing them with newer cheaper caps is probably going to be a step backwards.

It's similar to the Perreaux PMF 2150B I had for years - 200W / channel and a hernia every time you try to move it.

Lovely amp though.

What are the PSU cap specs?

If I did change them I was thinking Rifa PEH.

Ah. Didn't see the photo at first. 40,000uF @ 75V

RIFA are now branded as KEMET.

I'll check tomorrow, but not hopeful as I know I have crates of 450V and 500V stuff but not sure what else is there... Some 22,000uF @ 63V PEH 169 series for sure

Edit: ooooh! https://uk.farnell.com/kemet/peh200pv54 ... rlookahead

Yep, those PEH are nice, I would check the size though.

FWIW, I used four of these in each p6 monoblock
