I'll be happier to be in Wales than in England in the next few weeks. We currently have one quarter of the English infection rate.

A bit more on the Ivermectin controversy, this time in Australia.

"YouTube has barred Sky News Australia from uploading new content for a week, saying it had breached rules on spreading Covid-19 misinformation."

"A spokesperson told the Guardian it "did not allow content that denies the existence of Covid-19" or which encouraged people "to use hydroxychloroquine or ivermectin to treat or prevent the virus". Neither has been proven to be effective against Covid."

I am starting to think we have no right as a species to exist much longer. The insanity over Ivermectin just shows it. Calling it a horse drug just makes matters worst. Just take a look look at the madness on several HiFi forums over this.

We clearly have given up believing experts.

I get your drift, but sometimes "experts" disagree and/or contradict each other. :?

PS I've not seen anything on the other hi-fi forums I visit on a regular basis ?

Generally no, but you may need to be more restrictive who you decide is the expert. Science is built around the process of questioning the current consensus, but it should be clear what the consensus is at any one time. There is a type of language scientists use that the crackpots don't. If you see "may be", "is likely", "there is a possibility" and similar you may use that as a hint that the writer is not insane. Generally anyone making a clear assertion against the consensus should be viewed with doubt.

The last few pages at any time on the thread on AOS is a good example.

OK, thanks.

That's not a Hi-fi forum I visit, not for several years.

Have some ivermectin, we use it to treat the show guinea pigs the wife has for things like mites, worms ect. It would never occur to me to decide to use it.
Yes there have been trials, but thats all. Its not even specifically for horses
Surely common sense would dictate that for any illness or prevention thereof, you talk to/seek the advice of a medical professional. Not some random unproven source.

Yep, I believe it is also effective in humans as an anti parasitical agent. I guess if you had a population with a percentage suffering from parasites, using a treatment that removes parasites would in those patients improve their ability to fight another illness like covid but that correlation in no way talks to the drug having a direct effect on covid. That's what trials are for and statistical analysis.

Just for the record, there are some weird and unexpectedly good treatments for some diseases that would, at first glance, appear to be a bit bonkers.

Like giving cheap antibiotics (any tetracycline, e.g. Doxycycline) to treat malaria (which is parasitic rather than bacterial in nature). It works as the antibiotic somehow interferes with the growth and protein production of the parasite - the actual pathology is not well understood, but it works extremely well, is cheap and known to be safe (these tetracyclines have been in widespread use for a very long time).

Traditional malaria treatments like Lariam, Chloroquine and Proguanil can have nasty side-effects, especially Lariam. As someone who has spent a lot of time in malarial areas, the cheapness, effectiveness, widespread availability & good safety record of this unexpected application of a common drug is very good news indeed.

So, lets not dismiss stuff out-of-hand just because it's left-field, but wait for the science... until it's proven safe, avoid it; if it turns out eventually to have sort of beneficial effect, then it's another tool in the box...

Yes but the key bit is generally
but wait for the science.
Which unless you are a medical researcher of some sort involves doing nothing.

You carefully truncated that part of what I wrote...

I didn't careful do any such thing, that would imply there was some intent in my action. I just didn't copy the second bit as it seems to me to be implied by the first bit. If you waited for the science, then obviously before then you would do nothing extra, take it, wear it as a hat, etc.
