Where is the best / cheapest place to buy Tubes?

Is there any Info out there comparing 845 valves?

Hi Ali

I think it's absolutely fantastic & particularly for the money.

I’m just discussing with Nick to have it improved. I’m hoping for better clarity, but hopefully not at the expense of weight.

Will keep you posted.

What did you end up changing with yours Ali?

Beat me to it!

As I was saying to Nick, the presentation I'm looking for is :

Warm, Smooth, Natural, Lifelike Clarity, Close your eyes & you're there.

Weighty, Deep, Dark, Powerful, Bass-in-spades....

No pressure like Nick

Was going to get some AE silver-wound outputs, but ended up buying Colin's ESL III's instead!
I havnt done anything to it yet, except for some Reflektor 6l6's on the recommendation of Mr I,which were a useful improvement over the stock chinese valves.I'll still be getting the AE's when I have the readies,as well as maybe some KR 845's or some 845c's if they get them into reliable production.I note on the net that some have reworked the front end.I'll be interested to see what you come up with Nick.John Caswell posted on here that he was going to try some different input valves,so I'm awaiting his verdict also.He also fitted some Sowter outputs, which I believe he's very happy with.It seems to be quite happy driving the statics, but as ever, there is always room for improvement! It's pretty good as it stands, but I'm sure you'll come up with something to improve matters.

Regards.

P.S. Happy New Year to you all!

I think that might be a good start.
I've been listening to a few different front ends on the Rocky amp, and this one is favourite so far.

At the moment i've got the output from the anode of the bottom valve ie. below R4. There may may be more detail this way but for me the sound is thinner and less involving.

So it's back to SRPP for the time being.
Much to learn there is.
