My hi fi rack has 10mm glass shelves. I use wooden cones under my equipment but for some time I've been thinking I should replace the shelves with something less, shall we say, controversial than glass. I've thought about wood (birch ply, spruce, maple??), some kind of imitation torlyte or go the other way and use something dense like granite or slate.
Anybody done any comparisons/experiments in this area or have any experience worth sharing?

I just know I don't like glass.

Hi Ian,
I feel this is difficult to answer because there are so many variables such as floor construction, spiked/unspiked, weight of equipment and any isolation etc. I share Paul's view on glass. I do have a couple of these which I'm not using at the moment.

If you want to try them, I can bring them up for Owstfest for you to try if they fit your rack.
Best wishes,
Greg
