Bought a compressor limiter for the sound from the TV. Got fed up of turning the volume up to hear the dialogue, and turning it down when there’s some action so we don’t disturb the neighbours. It’s a Behringer MDX2600 and not bad for £40 off eBay, but will try to learn more and maybe get something better in the future

I’ll have to see if it makes any difference on adverts Mike. They are usually very heavily compressed, so same peak level as the programme, but much higher average. Definitely helps on modern films which seem to assume that you have speakers capable of over 100dB, and that is what you want to hear.

The sound quality suffers a bit when compressing, but it’s not too noticeable, and we can get through a whole film without touching the volume

I have done some tests, and subjectively, adverts are improved, but it’s only slight. If you bought it for this I feel that you would be disappointed. Having said that, it was only £40 so might be worth a try, but it is balanced in and out, so you might need to do some converting.

One handy feature is if you turn it off it bypasses internally with signal relays

Replaced my shagged out soldering iron yesterday with this cordless iron:

Brilliant bit of kit. Excellent for hairy-arsed valve amp projects. I will now be able to build amps without making a ton of dry joints.

I’ve often coveted an upmarket soldering iron , then I discovered Ali express do them for £2.50 . I bought 2 dozen and just throw them away after a couple of months .

Had another go at making Polish potato pierogies, this time with Twarog cheese. However despite more salt and spices (garam massala and half a Korean pot noodle spice sachet), the filling is still quite overwhelmed by the flavour of the pastry. Needs more work?

Improved this quite a bit by putting more gain before it and reducing the gain after
A bit limited as consumer stuff doesn't put out as much signal as pro gear, and I'm using it to watch TV, so nowhere near maximum output
Definitely happy with it

I see they are messing with the snooker rules in the Riyadh world masters, by adding another ball, gold coloured, worth 20 points. This gold ball only comes into play if a player gets a 147. Once a 147 is not possible the gold ball is removed from the table.
