#1 PT15s

Post by andrew Ivimey »

Hello boys!

As I type I'm listening to the latest mess all over the floor. At the end is a pair of PT15s through AE C core 3.4koutput trafos. HT is around 400 and C3gs are driving - bit of a pisser on the OA2s that hide their glow behind a screen.

If the headache I have is odd harmonic distortion or the Merlot change from Shiraz Cabernet, the sheer jagged cliff of SPL or that I am tired .... is all worth the effort.

Did anyone else go the extra mile on PT15s? I don't see the point of going 600Ht+ but I can!

Right now, The The - Mind Bomb - sounds wonderful; so much more detail than I'd heard before - love it. emotionally taking me 'beyond' .... I like that word!

earlier thsi afternoon I used 6B4gs -sweet! but I need to use these PT15s.

anyone else out there with pleasures and ways to recount?

P.S. Vaughn Williams' fantasia on a theme by Thomas Tallis - not bad at all.

Hi Andrew-i built my PT15 as the James D circuit but my HT was a bit less than James recommended.

To be honest, nice as they were,i preferred (slightly) the Doddington ECL82,although they don't have the power of the PT15s.

Then perhaps my output transformers were not up to it ? They were an unknown quantity, lets see how they perform with 845  .

I will be following your progress (as always) with interest.

It occurs to me that if I went ultra linear I'd get an awful lot more VOLUME out of this amplifier - sounds of wicked laughter!!!!!

So are you running the PT15 as a pentode ?

Mine were in triode mode.
