#1 In-wall speakers

Post by iansr »

We are planning some major works to my house including a revamp of the kitchen. I'd like to have some music capability in there without the speakers being too obtrusive and so I was wondering about in-wall or flat panel speakers. Has anybody heard any which are capable of producing something that approximates to music and which don't cost big money? I'm not expecting a walk-in soundstage or anything

In-wall can sound very good in principle - you are avoiding many of the problems inherent in any free-standing or bookshelf design (baffle step, edge diffraction effects, and late reflections from the wall interfering with the direct radiated sound)
Speaker craft are used a lot by custom installers. I fitted a pair of their ceiling speakers in our kitchen, and they sound fine.
